- Abstract
The intersection of film design and visual narrative in the Kisarasa food documentary series on the intersection of film design and visual storytelling in Kisarasa, an Indonesian food documentary series that highlights the country’s rich spice heritage. Through a qualitative case study, the research examines how production design elements such as set and location design, color palettes, props, costumes, lighting, and cinematography contribute to the construction of cultural narratives. The analysis draws on theoretical perspectives from Saul Bass and Tony Caputo to understand how symbolic design and emotional resonance function within visual media. Findings show that Kisarasa employs a unified visual language to guide the audience’s emotional engagement and cultural understanding. Each episode creates an immersive journey from historical context to present-day culinary practices. The use of digital platforms extends the impact of the documentary, making Indonesia’s culinary identity accessible to global audiences. The study concludes that thoughtful film design enhances both the aesthetic appeal and narrative clarity of cultural documentaries.
