- Abstract
Western cultural hegemony has significantly influenced visual media consumption in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. Phineas and Ferb, a popular American animated series, has gained renewed attention following its release on Disney+ in 2025. The series is widely recognized for its distinctive and highly stylized character designs, which rely on simplified geometric forms. This study analyzes the character design of Phineas and Ferb using Randy Bishop’s shape language theory, focusing on how fundamental shapes such as triangles, squares, and circles communicate personality traits and narrative roles. The findings demonstrate that geometric forms function not only as visual identifiers but also as structured narrative devices that encode psychological meaning and character relationships. This research contributes to animation and visual communication studies by highlighting the effectiveness of geometric minimalism as a storytelling strategy, as well as its relevance for contemporary character design practice in global media contexts.
