Website: https://imoviccon.com/ The 4th International Moving Image Cultures Conference (IMOVICCON 2025) addresses the evolving condition of visual culture through its theme, “The Cultural Shift from Moving Image to Image Moving.” This theme reflects a critical transformation in how images operate within contemporary digital environments. No longer confined to the screen as linear, time-based representations, moving images now circulate dynamically across platforms, networks, and everyday life. In this context, images are not merely viewed but actively shared, reposted, and reinterpreted, functioning as agents that shape identity, memory, and meaning. This shift calls for a reconsideration of established paradigms in moving image studies, particularly in relation to post-cinema aesthetics, digital archives, artificial intelligence, and the broader socio-cultural implications of visual media. These proceedings comprise selected papers presented at the 4th International Moving Image Cultures Conference (IMOVICCON 2025), held at Universitas Pelita Harapan, Tangerang, Indonesia, on November 20–21, 2025. The conference continues its commitment to providing an interdisciplinary academic platform where students, scholars, researchers, practitioners, and educators can exchange knowledge, present research findings, and engage in critical discussions on various aspects of moving image cultures. The theme of this year’s conference encourages participants to explore not only the technological transformation of images but also their cultural, political, and epistemological consequences in an increasingly networked society. IMOVICCON is a biennial academic conference initiated through a collaborative effort between the Visual Communication Design Department of Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) and the Film Department of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), Indonesia. Since its inception in 2019, the conference has served as a platform for scholarly exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue in the field of moving image cultures. Following its previous editions: “Visual Storytelling in Digital Society” (2021), and “The Past, The Present, and The Future of Moving Image Cultures” (2023), IMOVICCON 2025 extends this trajectory by critically engaging with the contemporary condition of image circulation and its implications for visual culture. The conference features four distinguished keynote speakers from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of moving image cultures. Andree E. Widjaja, Associate Professor at Universitas Pelita Harapan and National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, contributes expertise in information systems and digital transformation. Peter Hegedüs, Associate Professor at Griffith Film School, Australia, brings a practice-based perspective as a filmmaker and scholar exploring identity, memory, and social justice. Ren Si Jie from Metacarbon, China, represents emerging intersections between design, virtual production, and transmedia environments. Riri Riza, an acclaimed Indonesian film director, offers insights grounded in the film industry, particularly in storytelling and cultural representation. The conference is held on-site at Universitas Pelita Harapan, reaffirming the importance of direct academic engagement and collaborative exchange. By bringing together participants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, IMOVICCON 2025 reflects the inherently transdisciplinary nature of moving image studies. The conference addresses a wide range of topics, including image circulation, post-cinema practices, digital visuality, AI-generated media, and the role of moving images in cultural and political movements.
