- Abstract
This study undertook a comparative analysis of workplace breastfeeding support policies in China and the United Kingdom. By examining existing legislation, policy frameworks, and cultural contexts in both nations, the study identified notable strengths, such as explicit statutory breastfeeding protections in China and comprehensive maternity leave provisions along with robust anti-discrimination safeguards in the UK. Nevertheless, significant challenges persist, including gaps in policy implementation in China and the lack of a clear legal entitlement to breastfeeding in the workplace in the UK. This paper underscores the necessity of reinforcing policy enforcement, enhancing workplace environments, and elevating public awareness in both countries. Recommendations are proposed to improve breastfeeding support within the workplace, to increase breastfeeding continuation rates and to optimise maternal and child health outcomes.
