- Abstract
People Living with HIV (PLHIV), particularly among Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) in Indonesia, face significant mental health challenges, primarily due to social stigma and discrimination. Telenursing, utilizing common communication media like WhatsApp and telephone calls, has become an alternative for remote health support that can aid in enhancing mental health and adherence to treatment among PLHIV MSM. This study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, involving 9 participants. In-depth interviews were conducted to explore the participants’ experiences with mental health support and treatment adherence through remote communication Telenursing support was shown to provide a safe space for PLHIV MSM to express their feelings without fear of stigma. Additionally, participants reported increased motivation to adhere to antiretroviral (ARV) therapy due to the responsive, non- discriminatory nature of the telenursing support. Telenursing that utilizes common communication applications is an effective approach to support the mental health and treatment adherence of PLHIV MSM, especially for those facing limited access to direct healthcare services. It is recommended that healthcare provider training and collaboration with community groups be strengthened to expand the inclusivity and reach of these services.
