Abstract

With the rapid development of sports tourism and the upgrading of residents’ consumption, sports sojourn has emerged as a new industry and is gradually becoming an important engine for regional economic development. This article focuses on the phenomenon of sports sojourn, employing methods such as literature analysis and case studies to systematically examine the concept and impact of sports sojourn on economic development. The study finds that sports sojourn primarily influences local economies through three mechanisms: industrial integration, factor aggregation and cultural identity. It proposes strategies such as establishing a differentiated product system and a closed-loop value chain to empower the economic development of frontier ethnic regions. Mangshi City in Dehong Prefecture, a multi-ethnic border area between China and Myanmar, has long faced challenges of lagging economic development. The innovative mountain bike event sojourn model developed locally employs a three-pronged mechanism of event design, cultural integration, and community participation to form a complete chain from pre-event promotion to in-event consumption to post-event dissemination. This successfully transforms short-term events into sustained consumption scenarios, providing a replicable new path for the integration of culture, sports, and tourism in border ethnic regions.
