- Abstract
This study conducts a quantitative comparative analysis of linguistic features in Lao She’s representative works Rickshaw Boy and TeaHouse, aiming to explore the differences and similarities in language use between his novels and plays. By applying quantitative linguistic methods, the research analyzes lexical richness, high-frequency words, and sentence types, revealing that Rickshaw Boy features lower lexical diversity and a narrative-driven style, while TeaHouse demonstrates higher lexical variety and interactive, dialogue-based language. The findings highlight Lao She’s flexible adaptation of colloquial language to different genres, balancing literary depth with everyday speech. This study contributes quantitative evidence to support genre-based stylistic differences in Lao She’s works and provides insights into his linguistic artistry shaped by social and cultural contexts.
