Abstract

Bandar Senapelan represents a significant cultural heritage site within the city of Pekanbaru, Riau. Nonetheless, the cultural heritage of Bandar Senapelan has begun to be overlooked by the community for several reasons, including urbanization, technological decline, and a lack of public awareness. This research employed a qualitative approach, which is a methodology designed to elicit data regarding the perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors of the research subjects. The research was conducted in Pekanbaru, Riau, the region of origin of Bandar Senapelan. The research employed a qualitative approach, utilizing interviews with 10 high school students in Pekanbaru. The interviews were conducted using open-ended questions and observations. The observations were conducted over two to three hours and were recorded by the researcher. The findings indicate that augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies are effective in raising public awareness of Bandar Senapelan's cultural heritage. The findings indicate AR and VR technology can facilitate enhanced public engagement with Bandar Senapelan’s cultural heritage. These findings suggest a need for further development of AR and VR technology to improve public awareness and expand access to Bandar Senapelan’s cultural heritage. However, they also demonstrate that AR and VR technology can facilitate individuals’ access to insight into Bandar Senapelan. It is important to acknowledge the limitations of the study, including the relatively modest number of research subjects and the restricted geographical scope within the Bandar Senapelan. Consequently, further research is essential to expand the sample size and geographical scope.
