Abstract

Case-Based Learning (CBL) is one of the learning strategies that aligns theory with practice in an effort to optimize the achievement of outcome-based learning. Considering that students are adult learners, the application of CBL is in line with the principle of adult learning, namely “finding out without being told,” so this strategy is considered appropriate as a vehicle for developing HOTS abilities, one of which is problem-solving abilities. This rationale is based on the basic assumption of the importance of investigating the impact of CBL implementation on problem-solving ability (PSA). This experimental study used a one-group post-test design with subjects of Mathematics Education students of FKIP UNRI who took the Mathematics Learning Strategy course. The research data collection instrument was the PSA test for Mathematics Learning Management (MLM) and was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of the study showed that overall, PSA-MLM achieved an average score of 7.61 in the good category. The achievements for each indicator are: (1) a new paradigm for mathematics learning, with an average score of 8.19; (2) learning theory, with an average score of 6.71; and (3) interaction in learning, with an average score of 7.91.
