Efforts to Improve Reading Skills of First Grade Learners Through Technology-based Learning Media

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the reading ability of grade 1st students through technology-based learning media. This research is classroom action research that consists of several stages, planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation. The research subjects were class I A students of SD Negeri 130 Palembang consisting of 15 girls and 18 boys. The instruments used were written tests, observation, and interviews. All data were analyzed descriptively qualitative and quantitative. The results of the first cycle obtained students know letters, and syllables although not all understand the meaning of syllables. In the second cycle results obtained students can master the understanding of syllables, stringing syllables into words, with the help of technological media in the form of a word wall students can recognize letters, then supported by visual and audiovisual media in the form of learning videos on the topic “I want” and visualization of the topic “In the surrounding environment” students can understand the meaning of words by the achievement of learning objectives. Based on the results of the first Cycle and the second Cycle, it can be concluded that there is an increase in students’ reading ability through technology-based learning media.
