- Abstract
Objective: Under the backdrop of the rapid development of China’s anime industry, this study examines the impact of anime preference on primary school students’ creativity and the mediating role of creative self-efficacy. Methods: A random sampling method was selected to survey 1,087 students form a primary school in Sichuan Province using the Williams Creativity Scale, Biographical Inventory of Creative Behaviors, Alternate Uses Task, Student Creative Self-efficacy Scale and Anime Preference Questionnaire. A total of 772 valid questionnaires were collected and statistical analysis was conducted on the relevant data. Result: Preferences for different anime cultures (e.g., Japanese anime, Chinese anime) showed significant positive correlations with all three dimensions of primary school students’ creativity (trait, behavior, and thinking). Creative self-efficacy played a fully mediating role between preferences for Japanese anime and all three dimensions of creativity. In contrast, for preferences for Chinese anime, it exhibited a partially mediating role in the relationship with creative traits and, while serving as a full mediator in the connection with creative behaviors and creative thinking. Conclusion: Anime preference positively influences the development of creativity in primary school students and enhances children's creative growth through the improvement of creative self-efficacy. Anime culture functions as a hidden curriculum for fostering creativity in adolescents.
