Abstract

This study examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the development of decision-making skills in students within a university education framework that utilises digital technologies. AI can assist by helping students identify relevant information, evaluate different options, and make informed decisions. We employed a suitable AI tool in an experiment conducted at Mohammed Premier University in Oujda. The approach involved presenting a group of students of varying ages and skill levels with an exercise comprising several tasks supported by the chosen AI tool. Quantitative results from questionnaires and qualitative data from interviews indicated that AI summarises complex information, identifies trends and correlations in data, suggests alternative solutions, identifies potential causes of problems, and evaluates the consequences of choices to provide personalised recommendations. These findings suggest that AI positively impacts students’ decision-making skills within a university education framework using digital technologies. Potential implications of this study for analysing the impact of AI on teaching methods and learning outcomes include the possibility of developing new relationships between AI and problem-solving. The originality of this work lies in the potential new relationships between cognitive psychology (decision-making, problem-solving) and artificial intelligence.
