- Abstract
This study aims to analyse the existing literature on the role of AI in promoting sustainability within higher education. Through a bibliometric method and the use of VOSviewer, patterns and connections were identified, revealing four main thematic clusters. These clusters describe the integration of AI as a tool for data analysis, personalised learning and decision support in sustainability. However, the potential of AI to complement human expertise is also counterbalanced by ethical considerations and the need for appropriate pedagogical training. In addition, the challenges of rapid technological change are highlighted, with a call for a continued commitment to the professional development of educators. Despite concerns about the use of AI, substantial efforts have been made by higher education institutions to integrate technological approaches, highlighting the positive impact these initiatives can have on contributing to the development of a more sustainable society. In conclusion, although promising, this integration requires ethical reflection and appropriate training. Future efforts should focus on a thorough understanding of the complexities of this relationship in order to maximise the benefits while mitigating the potential risks of this technological and educational convergence.
