Abstract

This research integrates the Positive Psychology Model (PERMA) with the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to explore the mechanisms influencing technology acceptance among the elderly. The findings reveal that positive emotions significantly enhance the perceived ease of use of technology among the elderly, while perceived usefulness plays a critical mediating role between a sense of accomplishment and intention to use. Additionally, a sense of social connection indirectly influences the intention to use technology through perceived usefulness, indicating that the social interaction functions of technology positively impact the willingness of the elderly to adopt it. Data analysis shows that while the elderly exhibit high levels of life satisfaction and happiness, the decline in psychological health and satisfaction with age may weaken their willingness to accept technology. This research provides theoretical support for the design of age-friendly technologies, proposing strategies such as simplifying operations, enhancing a sense of accomplishment, and increasing perceived usefulness. Furthermore, it suggests combining social support systems with positive psychology interventions to improve the elderly’s ability to adopt technology, offering insights for addressing challenges in aging societies.
