- Abstract
This study aims to explore the semantics of the “red” concept in the works of Marx and Engels and its extended cultural significance. By employing textual analysis, it examines the usage of “red” in their writings and its cultural contexts, while also considering the historical background of the formation and evolution of red culture. The study finds that “red” embodies multiple symbolic meanings and serves as an expression of proletarian revolutionary culture, reflecting the organic unity of the proletariat, the Communist Party, and communism. Red culture is a crucial cultural force in realizing the communist ideal. Chinese red culture, as the localized adaptation of international red culture, demonstrates a high degree of integration between national and temporal characteristics.
