- Abstract
With the burgeoning concept of the low altitude economy and the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the aviation industry is undergoing a significant transformation. This transformation necessitates the cultivation of aviation professionals who possess not only deep knowledge of aviation principles but also a robust understanding of AI technologies. Consequently, the integration of AI education into undergraduate aviation programs has emerged as a crucial reform direction. This article delves into the imperative of introducing AI-focused undergraduate courses and reforming traditional teaching methods within aviation majors. It proposes comprehensive reform suggestions, including teaching content, teaching methods, practical aspects, and evaluation systems. In terms of teaching content, the article advocates for the inclusion of AI fundamentals, machine learning algorithms, and data analytics tailored to aviation scenarios. Teaching methods, on the other hand, should project-based assignments, and real-world case studies to foster a deeper understanding and practical application of AI concepts. Moreover, the paper emphasizes the importance of practical aspects. Finally, the evaluation system should be restructured to assess not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills and innovative thinking. Therefore, this article proposes a series of reform methods using AI projects related to the aviation field in the open source project of Alibaba Tianchi Competition as the core, demonstrating the practical role of AI in the aviation field, enhancing the ability of aviation students to use AI to handle practical problems, and using the Tianchi Competition ranking list as the evaluation system. The ultimate goal of these reforms is to build a curriculum system that not only aligns with the unique characteristics of aviation majors but also cultivates students’ AI literacy and prepares them to become applied talents in the aviation field, driving the industry towards a future of greater efficiency, safety, and innovation.
