Abstract

In light of the national emphasis on advancing labor education and promoting agricultural science popularization, this paper reviews the implementation of labor education curricula in primary and secondary schools and assesses the adoption of labor concepts on campuses. It identifies three primary challenges in developing labor courses within the campus spatial environment: a shortage of agricultural experts, insufficient effective platforms, and a lack of core competencies. Additionally, there is a significant lack of professional designers capable of integrating labor course concepts into the campus planning and design of primary and secondary schools. By analyzing the landscaping, rooftop utilization, and underused spaces of a sample of twenty school campuses in Chengdu, this study evaluates the practicality of campus renovation. It explores strategies for updating campus spaces by integrating agricultural education, thereby creating innovative campus environments. Furthermore, an empirical analysis of Tianfu Experimental School is conducted to describe and assess the roles of new campus environments centered on agricultural science popularization and labor education. Based on these findings, the paper offers recommendations for the future development of new campus environments for labor education, focusing on spatial optimization, collaborative efforts, talent development, and curriculum system enhancement.
