Abstract

This study investigates the integration of “Curriculum Ideological and Political Education” (CIPE) into the “Introduction to New Materials” course within China’s higher education system, particularly in the context of the “New Engineering” era. CIPE aims to cultivate students’ professional knowledge while instilling social responsibility and ethical awareness. The course targets first-year students with diverse backgrounds and interests, employing innovative teaching methods that encourage active engagement. Key strategies include the use of contemporary case studies relevant to materials science, which connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications, thereby enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the study proposes an outcomes-based assessment framework that incorporates self-assessment, peer review, and instructor feedback, promoting continuous growth and facilitating timely adjustments to teaching strategies. By fostering a values-based learning environment, this approach prepares students to become well-rounded engineering professionals capable of addressing complex societal and technological challenges. The findings contribute to understanding how CIPE can enrich engineering education, creating a holistic learning experience that aligns technical expertise with ideological and political consciousness.
