- Abstract
Since the cessation of the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan, China, at the end of 2019, it has quickly spread to most parts of the world, becoming one of the most serious public health crises during the early 21st century. Nonprofit organizations, particularly during the time of the epidemic and its spread, particularly in the area of resource mobilization, information dissemination, and the provision of services. Based on the fact that this paper examines the role of nonprofit organizations in China and the United States in the response to the COVID-19 epidemic and their unique strategies and effects in mobilizing resources, offering services, educating information, and advocating for policy, this paper compares the response patterns of nonprofit organizations under the different political systems and social cultures. As with both countries' major importance to the performance of their nonprofit organizations in the crisis, the roles played by the organizations in both countries are quite different due to the different manners with which government control, resource allocation, and social culture impact the two countries. The role of nonprofit organizations in future crises brings a new perspective, which is theoretically supported and practically suggested for the role of global nonprofit organizations in public health crises.
