Abstract

The world is undergoing an unprecedented technological innovation. On the other hand, the connection and relationship pattern between countries in the world is facing a challenge. Regional relationships across countries become more important. Contemporarily, a country cannot develop better and become competitive without wide regional cooperation. China, as the second largest economic entity, broadly cooperates with many countries in the world and forms into groups such as BRICS and China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA). Owing to the distance, CAFTA, which includes China and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, becomes a necessary and important relationship for China. In nearly 30 years of cooperation, CAFTA has developed communication in many kinds of fields. Among them, the trade in CAFTA is facing a transition in the digital economy era. This essay mainly focuses on the role of digital economy, researching the driven factors for trade transition in China-ASEAN cooperation, by analyzing real cases, qualitative discussion of positive effects, potential problems and recommendations. This essay points out that there are three main aspects which drive the trade transition in CAFTA in digital era, which are establishment of digital infrastructure, effective policies and change of trade structure.
