Abstract

The integration of lean manufacturing tools with digital technologies of industry 4.0 named as lean 4.0, brings out a guide way to achieve sustainability especially within micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). In India, MSMEs are the key players that generate employment as well as products, empirical evidence on lean 4.0 adaptation for sustainability is limited. This study is an effort to evaluate the impact of lean 4.0 over green manufacturing performance within MSMEs in India, while considering sustainability is a prime concern. Survey instrument is developed and send to multiple industrial manufacturing clusters. Valid responses were empirically analyzed. Partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to evaluate the results, where work force digital skills considered as mediating variable and industrial readiness is taken as moderating factor. The outcomes show the impact of lean 4.0 have positive impact on environmental, economic, and social sustainability dimensions. The results confirm that digital skilled workforce play a critical role for organizational readiness and sustainability achievement. The findings provide actionable guidance to the policy maker, academicians and industrialists to promote digital lean for sustainable outcomes.
