Abstract

The present study investigated the performance of the solar air heater that is having the rotating spiral shape baffles as turbulator for diminishing the thermal boundary layer and paraffin wax as PCM i.e., SAH1 for better thermal energy retentions. The system performance was compared with the conventional system. The newly proposed SAH1 proved to be better depicting the lowest value of plate temperatures with its peak value recorded during the high sun hour is 44℃. While these value for the solar air heater that is having the rotating spiral shape baffles without PCM (SAH2) and smooth absorber plate (SAH3) were 49℃ and 81℃, respectively. Similarly, the thermal efficiency was found to be better for the newly proposed system. The highest thermal efficiency values for the SAH1, SAH2 and SAH3 were observed to be 66.03%, 56.09% and 22.69%, respectively. The detailed study is further required for exploring the full potential of the PCM integrated solar air heater roughened with the rotating baffles.
