Abstract

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in livestock business activities has a major impact on both livestock and farmers. A decrease in the health condition and productivity of livestock at the same time causes the income of farmers to decrease. The research was conducted with the aim to determine the income of farmers during FMD outbreaks. The method used in the study was descriptive quantitative method with direct survey to the field. Respondents used were 40 FMD-affected dairy farmers in Blandit Hamlet, Wonorejo Village, Singosari Subdistrict, Malang Regency who routinely deposit their milk to the head of the farmers group. Sources of research data obtained from interviews and questionnaires with data analysis techniques using normality test and z test. The results obtained from the costs studied both from production costs, revenue, and income in the period before FMD, during FMD, or after FMD found no difference in average costs except revenue during and after FMD and income during and after FMD. Based on the results of the research conducted, it is recommended to conduct further research on the development of FMD spread, livestock productivity, and costs in livestock maintenance management considering that livestock that have been declared healthy and recovered from FMD outbreaks have not been able to reach their peak productivity again. Although feed consumption has returned to normal, milk production cannot reach the same amount as before FMD.
