- Abstract
This study aims to describe the application of the jigsaw method to improve students’ critical thinking and the obstacles and solutions to this application. This study will use qualitative research with a case study research design. The type of qualitative descriptive research displays data as it is without any manipulation process or other treatments. The research was conducted at SDN 2 Banjarejo. Data were obtained through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation. This study uses data analysis from Miles & Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and concluding/data verification. The study showed that the Jigsaw method significantly contributed to improving students’ critical thinking skills. Students involved in small group discussions showed improvements in analytical, evaluation, and argumentation skills. Supporting factors for the success of this method include the active role of the teacher as a facilitator, clear division of tasks in groups, and a collaborative learning environment. However, this study also identified several obstacles, such as gaps in student abilities and the time required to prepare materials.The Jigsaw method is an effective approach to encourage the development of students’ critical thinking skills, provided that its implementation is well planned.
