- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the variation of negotiation language and the form of variation of negotiation language used by sellers and buyers with different ethnic backgrounds in Surakarta. This study is qualitative research that uses a descriptive method to explain the variation of negotiation language and the form of variation of negotiation language used by sellers and buyers in traditional markets in Surakarta. The data collection technique in this study was carried out by observation and interviews. The results of this study show that the variations of the language used include code switching and code mixing. There were 4 markets where the use of code switching was found and 3 markets where code mixing was found. The form of the variation of negotiation language can be seen from 3 elements, namely in terms of phonology, morphology and syntax. In this study, no negative impact was found from the use of language variations that hindered the negotiation process.
