Abstract

Bullying is a serious problem that is rampant in the school environment and can have a negative impact on student development. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of a student mentoring program in building anti-bullying character in elementary school students. Through a qualitative approach, this study involved a number of students, teachers, and mentors in an elementary school. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The results showed that the mentoring program has great potential in reducing bullying behavior and increasing students’ awareness about the dangers of bullying. Factors that support the success of the program include the active involvement of students, the quality of the mentors, and support from teachers and parents. However, this study also identified some challenges that need to be addressed, such as limited resources and behavior change that takes time. This study provides important implications for the development of bullying prevention programs in schools. Recommendations for future research include longitudinal studies, comparison of mentoring models, and analysis of context factors that influence the success of student mentoring programs in building anti-bullying character in elementary schools.
