Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) in education is substantially changing the way we learn and engage with educational content. This article illustrates the pedagogical advantages of AR, especially with regards to increasing engagement, motivation and retention of the information. Using a literature review and a critical review of existing applications, we investigate how AR enriches educational environments. Finally, potentials for the joint integration of AR and artificial intelligence (AI) are discussed, as a potential way of achieving more contextually adaptive and therefore genuinely personalized learning.
